Music Box (2022)

I took a class with Paulette Rosen at the Creative Arts Workshop to make a music box, resulting in this project and a couple of others. This was my real introduction to box-making that got me to love it; previously I had done bookbinding and rather avoided the boxes, but several more experienced box artists were in the class with me so it was a great learning experience. The box is made partially with a “typical” box structure and partially with a case to allow for it to open, and it snaps closed with an embedded magnet. The music box that it is made to fit is from Kikkerland Design. (This is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”) Materials: binders board, decorative paper and bookbinding adhesives, acrylic paint. There is book cloth beneath the paper for the case hinges.
