“Removeable Feast” Gatefold
I took a class with Paulette Rosen at the Creative Arts Workshop Bindery called “The Accordion Book as a Removeable Feast”, where she taught us to make these removable structures for a postcard, image, or other sturdy piece of thin paper-or-similar, and sew them into an accordion.
I had previously taken a workshop with her in which some people (not me) were working on Gatefold structures. I decided to combine the two with this postcard set of early-twentieth-century (lol) ads, and used the dual structure of the piece I wanted to make as a way to look at the contrast/similarity of masculininity and femininity and “family values” in ads for products from this time.
Cloth provided by the Creative Arts Workshop bindery as part of the class, paper purchased from Hollander’s.
